Cyber Education in Focus: Women4Cyber Montenegro Laying Foundations for Safety in the Digital Society

Women4Cyber Montenegro, the national representation of the Women4Cyber Foundation from Brussels, has kicked off this year’s activities with the training “Fundamentals of Cybersecurity for Non-Technical Professionals,” placing citizens at the center of cyber efforts.

Participants were provided with an exceptional opportunity to deepen their knowledge and gain expertise in the field of information security at the University of Montenegro, under the mentorship of the most influential leaders in this field. During this intensive training program, participants were able to delve into current topics, analyze the complexities of cyber threats, and develop advanced skills necessary for preserving information security. Emphasis was placed on raising awareness among citizens about cyber security, highlighting the key challenges we face in the digital age.

This comprehensive program not only allowed participants to broaden their horizons but also laid the groundwork for further advancement and contribution to the development of this key area in a broader societal context, which is part of the mission and vision of Women4Cyber Montenegro.

During the third day of training, participants were introduced to the Cyber Citizen Initiative, which aims to address practical challenges by creating a common model for learning basic cyber skills. The goal of this initiative is to establish a comprehensive European model for learning cyber security to strengthen cyber resilience across the continent.

Additionally, experts from ENISA presented the AR-in-a-Box program, which provides theoretical and practical knowledge on designing and implementing cyber security awareness-raising activities. This program emphasizes raising awareness as an essential part of security strategy, aiming to promote good practices in the cyber security culture of society.

In addition to participants from the country and the surrounding area, participants in the training included representatives from Women4Cyber Finland and Women4Cyber Greece, among others. The certificates participants received after the training are recognized in all EU member states.

The training was organized by the University of Montenegro, the European College of Defense and Security (ESDC), and the National University of Public Service from Hungary, with logistical and expert assistance from the Women4Cyber Montenegro organization.

Cyber security is a crucial step towards achieving collective security, which is why W4C Montenegro will continue with similar initiatives and education in the future period, so that as a society, we are prepared to respond to contemporary cyber challenges, all in line with NATO and EU standards that our country aspires to.
